President's Letter 2007-2008
Howdy Aggie Moms!

The purpose of our club is to promote Texas A&M University, to contribute to the welfare and happiness of our students attending Texas A&M University, and to provide a support unit for mothers, stepmothers, or guardians of students and Former Students of Texas A&M University. Our club is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954.

We are one of about 124 local clubs in the Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers’ Clubs. The majority of the members in our club are mothers, stepmothers and guardians of current and former students of Texas A&M University that are located within the Aldine, Cy-Fair, Klein, Spring, Tomball and Waller Independent School Districts in and around Northwest Harris County, Texas.

Our general meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, August through May at the following location:

Houston Distributing Center
7100 High Life Drive
Houston, TX 77066
Between Cutten Road and State Highway 249, North of Sam Houston Parkway

Come join us as we share that unique Aggie Mom Spirit!!
At most general meetings we enjoy food, Aggie friends and fellowship and an informative talk, usually from one of the department heads or organizations on the Texas A&M campus. At many meetings, our Boutique group also provides an outstanding assortment of shirts, club cookbooks and handmade Aggie crafts for you to purchase including our trademark traditions trees and picture frames.

This year, we are planning other just-for-fun events such as attending Silver Taps, visiting Moody Gardens and tailgating at a baseball game in the Spring.
Our club is also well known for the outstanding Care Packages that we deliver to students before finals each semester. These care packages include socks, foods, snacks and study aids in a useful Aggie bag or cooler. Warning – all students must go through the famous “NWHC Aggie Mom Hug Line” to obtain their care packages. They love it!

We are having three major fund raising events each year. On Saturday, October 13, 2007, we will have a beautiful China Luncheon and Style Show. Somehow, the table hostesses’ decorations become more awesome each year! This year, the luncheon theme will center around “Aggie Mom Love”.  On Friday, February 29, 2008 we will have a terrific Dinner and Auction with a “Fabulous Fifties” theme. The entertainment at our Fabulous Fifties Dinner and Auction will be one of the outstanding student performing groups at Texas A&M, such as the Aggie Wranglers, the Texas Aggie Swing Cats or Apotheosis. We hope that you will come join the fun! Last, on Friday, March 28, 2008, we will host a concert of the Texas A&M Singing Cadets. This fabulous evening of entertainment will include a combination of religious, patriotic, show and Aggie tunes. This year will be so much fun – guaranteed!

Last year, NWHC Aggie Moms gave $7,500 to Texas A&M students in the form of seven scholarships. Two of those scholarships were funded by our own endowment formed by the club in 2002 to provide scholarships to students forever. In May 2006, we invested $8,748 more into our endowment fund. Eight $100 book awards were also provided to students to subsidize bookstore purchases. Last, we donated $20,752 to a total of 74 student organizations on both the College Station and Galveston campuses. Whoop!

The theme for the 2007 – 2008 year is “Aggie Moms, Givers of the Ultimate Gift”. I hope that each of your students have the opportunity to discover that “Life is how you live it, not how you spend it”. “The Ultimate Gift” is not the same for each of us or each of our children, but each individual’s passion and purpose in life.

I chose this as my theme for the year, because I think that we all hope that our children will someday understand what “The Ultimate Gift” is for each of their own lives. As moms we can’t resist it – we guide, we push, we nag, we cheer, we cry, we agree, we disagree, we laugh and we pray – all in hopes of getting our offspring there faster and on the straightest, smoothest road possible. Especially since we know that the only way to give “The Ultimate Gift” is to let each child discover it himself in his own time. The four (or more) years that our Aggies attend college are critical years in this discovery process.

So, in the coming year, I salute you, Aggie Moms, and your continuing efforts to encourage you Aggies and children (and grandchildren for some of our club members) each to discover their own special “Ultimate Gifts” and meaning in life.

Gig ‘em and come join us!
