September 2008 Howdy Aggie Moms! Welcome to the 2008-2009 year! We want to welcome all Aggie Moms, Stepmoms and guardians to the Northwest Harris County Aggie Moms web site. Your Aggie Mom board has been busy since June 1—gearing up for an exciting fun-filled year. The purpose of our club is to promote Texas A&M University, to contribute to the welfare and happiness of our students attending Texas A&M University and to provide a support unit for mothers, step mothers and guardians of students and former students of Texas A&M. Our club is organized as a not for profit organization under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c) (3). We are one of about 126 clubs that are part of the Federation of Texas A&M Mothers’ Clubs. Most of our members are mothers, stepmothers, and guardians of current and former students of Texas A&M that reside in the Aldine, Cy-Fair, Klein, Spring, Tomball and Waller Independent School Districts located in and near to northwest Harris County, Texas. Our general meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, August through May at the following location: Houston Distributing Company 7100 High Life Drive Houston TX 77060 Located between Cutten Road and State Highway 249. North of the Sam Houston Parkway. Come and join us as we share the Aggie Mom Spirit!! At most meetings we enjoy food, Aggie friends and fellowship and an informative talk, usually from one of the department heads or student organizations from Texas A&M. At several meetings, our Boutique group also provides an outstanding assortment of shirts, club cookbooks, and handmade Aggie crafts—including our trademark Tradition trees and picture frames—for you to purchase. The NWHC Aggie Moms Club is known for the outstanding Care Packages that we deliver to the students before finals each semester. These care packages include snacks and study aids in a useful Aggie bag or cooler. Warning--all students must go thru the famous “NWHC Aggie Mom hug line” before they can pick up their care package. All the students just love it! We are planning our Annual Dinner and Auction on February 20, 2009 with an Hawaiian Luau theme. The entertainment at our Hawaiian Luau will be one of the outstanding student performing groups from Texas A&M such as the Aggie Wranglers, the Texas A&M Swing Cats or Apotheosis. We hope that you plan to attend and shop at the auction to support our efforts in providing scholarships for the deserving students from our club area. Last year, NWHC Aggie moms gave $8,500 to Texas A&M students in the form of eight scholarships. Two of these scholarships were funded by our endowment formed by the club in 2002 to provide scholarships to students forever. In May 2008, we invested $12,680 more into our endowment fund. We gave ten book awards to students to subsidize bookstore purchases. Last we donated $29,978 to a total 81 student organizations on both the College Station and Galveston campuses. Whoop!!My theme this year is “Aggie Moms—A Quilt of Friendship and Caring.” I have personally benefited from the relationships that I have been so privileged to develop while being a part of NWHC Aggie Moms Club. When I think about all the Aggie moms who I have known—the former students, the moms who did not know none of the A&M traditions until their son or daughter enrolled at A&M, the moms who work outside the home and those who work as full-time homemakers—I, then, realize that we all have a special place in the organization. My hope is that you can find your special place and contribute your own touch and passion to that area. With each person doing a small part in the club, we can make a big impact for our students and the University they attend.
