TWENTY-ONE WONDERFUL YEARS AND STILL COUNTING…
The official charter was granted in March 1988. By then there were 48 “charter” members of our club. The growth of the Northwest Harris County Texas A&M University Mothers’ Club has continued steadily since then. The club has had to move its meeting location four different times to accommodate the growth. Although the membership reached a high mark in 2002 with 401 members, the average membership now is about 350 members. The majority of our enthusiastic, dedicated and hard working Aggie Moms are located in the Aldine, Cypress-Fairbanks, Klein, Spring, Tomball and Waller Independent School Districts. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month from August through May each year. Aggie Moms participate in a wide variety of activities. The club’s trademark craft items, the tradition trees and picture frames, have been sold to club members at meetings and others at the Christmas and Parent Weekend craft boutiques for many years. We assemble and deliver care packages full of socks, food, snacks and study aids in an Aggie container to students prior to finals in Fall and Spring. We participate in several federation sponsored events. Last, we participate in several fundraising events including our annual China Luncheon and Style Show in Fall, Dinner and Auction in Spring and Singing Cadets Concert in Spring. There is something for everyone! Our club is very proud of the establishment of the NWHC TAMU Endowed Scholarship Fund created with the Texas A&M Foundation in 2002. It was fully funded within one year and continues to grow each year to assist the club with the scholarship program. In April 2008, The NWHC Aggie Moms’ Club gave two $1,250 endowed scholarships and six $1,000 scholarships to students attending Texas A&M University from the northwest Harris County area. Also, ten $100 book awards were given to Aggie students last year. Our club has also given funds to numerous organizations recognized by the university each year. In May 2008 NWHC Aggie Moms gave $30,620 to a total of 84 student organizations on both the College Station and Galveston Campuses. Most moms of this vibrant club will attest to the fact that some of the best friends they have are the Aggie Moms that they have met and worked with through their club, the Northwest Harris County Texas A&M University Mothers’ Club.
